Ivan the terrible suite Neeme Jarvi and the Philharmonica
Hello, both my teacher and I are trying to find out who played tuba with the philharmonia in 1991 under conductor Neeme Jarvi and played The suite from Ivan the Terrible on the philharmonia’s record. The philharmonia to my knowledge is based out of London but that’s about all I could find. We want to know who the player is because the excerpt played at the 15:52 marking is incredible and we have never heard anyone play the excerpt like that. Thank you

That was John Jenkins. The most incredible tuba player.

Yes. Certainly John Jenkins (he was my teacher at the Royal College of Music in London from 1974-5. He was most likely playing on his Czerveny big Bb.

I know I'm digging up an old thread but it's also worth hearing John Jenkins playing with Equale Brass.
