THE SAPS CENTURIANS

Post by Haugan »

Following is a list of the "Sousaphone Artists Preservation Society" first 100 members.

The "SAPS" were founded in 1973 during the "First International Tuba Symposium and Workshop" held in Bloomington, IN. The SAPS have been a secret orginization until 2002, and this post marks the first time that the founding 100, or the "Centurians" has been publicly posted.

Not all "SAPS" on this list are compliant or aware of their membership; efforts have been made to remove all of those not wishing affiliation with the orginization with the exception of Harvard G. Phillips, who is Honorary #1 SAP, occupying the William John Bell Memorial chair.

The number of the member does not indicate rank or file, and members numbers have changed over the last 33 years.

The SAPS was founded as an "underground" arm of T.U.B.A., dedicated to preserving the marriage of humor and the tuba. The SAPS motto is: "We aren't afraid to make fun of ourselves or anyone else."

Membership Cards

Post by Haugan »

Those Centurians wishing their official "gold card" membership card please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Paul Haugan, SAPS secretary
6226 N. 106th St.
Milwaukee, Wis. 53225

Those wishing to officiate/initiate their SAP status and recieve a number please enclose at least a dollar and do the same thing. SAPS - "Send Money" Remember, we're out there to keep the good times rolling. How much fun can you expect to have at a violin convention, anyway?

Hey, since when did he play, let alone acknowledge, the sousaphone?

Uh-uh, Martha My Dear doesn't count; the credit for that goes to Sir George Martin. So there.

A few years ago, I received a stiff fine for clubbing Easter Seals.
Last week I got nailed on this list for implying there was no Easter Bunny.

Paul's on a roll, let him have some fun before he comes down.

#64 has written a song regarding his status, and has "ownership rights" to the gridiron song: "On Wisconsin". Not all SAPS are Bona fide Sousaphone Artists. Just bona fide saps.

He keeps asking people if they'll still need him and if they'll still feed him when he's #64. I guess at least the SAPS know.
