Good Kid Friendly Trombone Method Books

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

I am interested in ideas for method books for trombone, that are good for private lessons for a 6th/7th grader. Ideas for methods that are "kid friendly" would be welcomed.

Thanks,

Walter Beeler Method for Trombone, Book 1 (Warner Bros) $8.95.

The Beeler is probably the best beginning trombone book. It doesn't go too high too early, a major problem with the Rubank Beginning Method for Trombone.

The Beeler doesn't have a bunch of distracting pictures and happy crap like most current band methods.

A 6th-7th grader could start with the Beeler, then supplement the book with etudes from Hering's 40 Progressive Studies.

Larry,

Check out the OTJF at www.trombone.org. Look specifically at the "Pedagogy" and "Just for Beginners" sections. There are a number of threads relevant to your question.

Ed Sueta band Method, very logical progression and rhtyhmically oriented. good songs too. There are 3 levels. Old series though so it may be hard to find.
