First: congratulate me and accept me into the breth/sisteren: I bought an old ('70 - '71) fiberglas King sousa! Came with a neck that is clearly newer than the rest of the horn, and only 1 bit that doesn't fit very well.
As I don't have a digital camera to post photos, I'm going to try to describe the neck and see if anyone can identify it, so I know what bits to buy.
The neck is lacquered brass and does fit nicely into the receiver, and though the receiver screw can't clamp it RIGID, it holds it pretty well; that is, it doesn't jiggle, but it can spin with only a little effort. So I think the receiver end of the neck is the right size for the receiver.
There is no music holder clip on this neck and doesn't appear as though there ever was.
The exterior (showing) part of the neck (that is, not counting the part the slides into the receiver) is two equal legs. If it were straightened out, the bend and two end ferrules together (without the part the slides into the receiver) would be about 5-1/2" long. The inner angle brace is a piece of plain round rod with 45 degree bends at each end, and the short ends of this brace are soldered flat to circular pads (feet?) on the neck's end ferrules; of course these pads are formed to the outside surface of the ferrules. There is another reinforcement brace half-round rod that follows the outer curve of the neck and is soldered flat to the neck along the brace's entire length, not quite extending to the ferrules; this little brace's ends are shaped to chisel points. And here's (what I hope is) the clincher: the neck has a little clamp screw at the bit end, similar to the receiver clamp arrangement.
So... whaddoIgot?
(good thing the horn's bell says "King" on it...)
identify this sousa neck?
