The issue with Delta is with instruments musicians attempt to carry on the plane. Delta has been completely inflexible in this regard. Even on half-full flights where there is a lot of free space in the overhead, musicians have been forced to hand check their instruments... all too often, despite assurances otherwise, the instruments come out, damaged, on the luggage carousel.Tubadad wrote:An interesting point that unfortunately they do not elaborate on: the AFM reports that the airline they receive the most complaints about is Delta. However, I have always heard that Delta was the most forgiving airline when it came to discretionary charges for musical instrument carriage. So, I am a bit confused by this report, curious if anyone has anything to add to it or to any aspect of this article.
Read the forum at trombone.org and you'll see threads devoted to this topic... lots of complaints from trombonists and hints for dealing with airline staff (like taking a cloth tape measure along, to prove that the instrument is within the airline's official guidelines).
