I've never had a problem with my Cronkhite bag. I've also heard good things about Tuxedo bags. And the pistons are safe unless you are constantly hitting the spot in which they are located.

In my opinion the Soundwear's gigbag's are the best. They actually might be better than plastic hard cases. You can mount it to your back, so its easier to transport than hard cases. It gives your horn good protection as long as you don't drop it. But I don't think that plastic case will like the dropping thing either. I've used Soundwear's gigbag for over a year now. Haven't had a single dent for my tuba because of the gigbag. I mainly use public transportation and I use it almost everyday with horn on my back. So my gigbag have been in heavy use and it had endured it very well.
