Also Sprach Arnold Jacobs

Post by brianf »

OK, this is a commercial post - if you don't like it, hit the back arrow.

Bruce Nelson's new book, Also sprach Arnold Jacobs has just arrived! Just opened the first case to arrive from Germany.

Bruce Nelson was the Bass Trombonist in Chicago'd Lyric Opera for many years before his retirement a few years back. He was a student of Mr Jacobs' from 1968 and attended many masterclasses. He looked threough many Northwestern Masterclass tapes, which most of Also sprach Arnold Jacobs is based on. There are two appendixes, the section that Mr. Jacobs wrote for the Hal Leonard method in the sixties which has been out of print for several years, is the first. The second is the directions for using breathing devices that is located on my web page.

This is a book that Bruce has worked on for a few years. I read the first draft on the way to Australia in 2004 and found it to be very accurate. I can't wait to read the final draft. It even has a pix of me (just a warning)!

Anyway, they just arrived, you can order them on my web site or just email me.

I recieved a copy from Gerhard Wolf and I believe it is something that every serious tuba player should try to get their hands on. It's wonderfully written and taken directly from Video Recordings, Masterclasses, and tape recordings of Jacobs. For those of you who did not get the chance to study with Jacobs(the number is growing every day), This is about as close as you will probably get. -Joe

There are two new Jabos books that have transcripts from masterclasses but you cannot put this in writing. The closest you get is the videos but looking through all of them is very time consuming - I have done it! I did edit sections from those classes, take a look at some samples from the ten part live show - http://www.windsongpress.com/almost%20l ... 20live.htm . This is the closest you can get!

This book is a print on demand - they print small quantities and more can be printed quickly. Don't worry, it will be available. For those of us in the U.S. there is the shipping issue, it takes time to cross the pond. I recieved one case and the second is now crossing the pond.
