Better yet, a Sony PSP, watch movies, play games, listen to music, and if the rehearsal hall has WIFI, surf the internet! :)

I know that there are jesters, about, and I know that Steve knows better, but tuba rests are simply opportunities for you to further your musical knowledge and enlightenment. Bring the score and follow along. A translation will help, too, unless German is one of your languages. I played the "Gloria" by Poulenc with the Manhattan Phil. in 1989(?) and was apalled to see the 2nd bassoonist reading "Star Wars" during the rehearsal. A truly sad commentary, now backed up by respected posters.....

ps...

Don't forget to bitch, moan and look at your watch when the conductor goes overtime. In fact, it's better just to leave...
