Zdzislaw Piernik?

I just found out about this guy today, but I can't find hardly any information about him, apart from the fact that he was(is) a Polish tuba soloist who was(is) active in the contemporary music scene. Does anyone know about this guy? He sounds like a great musician. Any info on this topic would be appreciated.

Coincidently, I was the section on updating my webpage about brass player's who have received the highest award from their respective instrument organization.

Zdzislaw Piernik was given ITEC's highest award and I searches the net finging out about him. John Giffiths wrote something about him - I copied it on my page - http://www.windsongpress.com/brass%20pl ... iernik.htm .

It is sad that only the International Horn Society has bios of those who have received their highest award. The Trumpet, Trombone and Tuba organizations only list their names. After working a number of shows and having to explain to students who some of these players are, something had to be done. I talked to Harvey Phillips about this and he thought this was something that should be done and suggested that I add it to my site. It's been there since 2000.

David Kuehn
Michael Lind
Chester Roberts
Donald Stanley

Vilmos SzÃ¡bo
Willy Kurath

Withing the past week I searched the net for a bio and came up with nothing. If anyone has a bio for these players, let me know.

At The Kansas City Conservatory, Dean David Kuehn was known as the only Dean who could hear below middle C!

Does anyone know about these CDs? I'm really interested in finding out about this guy. They sound like very interesting recordings.

If you can handle LPs, (you know, those black things that are about the size of a medium pizza), get Piernik's 1981 "Virtuoso Tuba" recording (STOLAT SZM 0115). Not modern, but traditional literatire (Mozart, Schubert, Boccherini, etc.).

Really worth listening to.

It's funny that you should mention that lp, because I found and bought that same record on ebay just this morning. It was only $8.00! And in near-mint condition as well. I'll have to bring my record player out of storage for that one. I also found a cd of his that features works by Polish composers, including Penderecki. Problem is, the cd is $20.00, none of which I have right now, (blew my last bit of cash on the lp, with shipping.) I'll get it in the next week or so.
