Not that it will help you all that much, but the serial # appears to be:
869019. the BE 982 before those #'s are, of course, the model #. I can't find anything after 1952 on either of the lists I can access. Maybe someone has another list other than Kirmser's or saxworx? The music group frameset list is defunct and Besson is----what? A tough one!

Well my 981 has a serial number 981-751311 and I know that dates from 1988, so yours is later than that. My guess would be mid-1990's.

If it has a water key on the 3rd valve slide and Besson engraved on the leadpipe, than that confirms it being =>1990's.
