The best recording is a Live Brass Band (Original) one from the European Championships in 1992. I was lucky enough to be playing on it, and it still brings a lump to my throat when I hear it!

It's on Polyphonic QPRL 051D.

There is also a studio version with the same band, also featuring tuba soloist Thomas Wyss. This is

Have to agree with Andy , the 1992 European Championships recording from Cardiff with the BBS Band and Howard Snell one of the best competition recordings ever.
If you are looking for a concert band recording there is a tokyo kosai wind orchestra recording which is really impressive ( the recording features british music for winds).

The Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra played YOtD last year at Carnegie Hall. We pulled it off the outer movements with reasonable results, but the sheer terror of the third movement is outweight by the beauty of the second movement. In my opinion though, the most satisfying part of the whole piece to play is the euphonium counter melody in the second movement.
