Another one bites the dust!

Charles Fail, a fixture in the Atlanta used instrument scene, has closed his doors to repair and restoration. The sign on the door today said closed due to medical reasons. When I called and talked to Charles he said it was liver damage due to accumulated exposure to the chemicals. I haven't done any business with Charles since I became aquainted with Lee Stofer a few years ago so it was a shock to hear this.

You repair oriented tubenetters please keep your attention on this chemical thing. I don't know enough about it to discuss the topic, but it's sure a shame when someone with the skill to do what you guys can do has to lay it down. Sort of like a brain surgeon getting the twitches.

I was curious as to what he might have in the tuba line when I stopped by today. I checked the website, http://charlesfail.com/ , and he has only one 20K listed for sale.

I bought a euphonium and a sousaphone from him in the distant past...' good honest businessman.

I certainly hope that any health problems anyone has are, somehow, minimalized.

I probably did not make it clear before but he is ok. His system just can't take anymore chemicals. He is also going to keep the website up and continue to trade in used horns. I suppose he will also continue some limited ww restoration, but no brass. And he certainly is a good honest businessman. I would buy online from him even if I didn't know where he lived. Health problems suck!
