Tuba solos with young band accomp.

Post by Jeff Keller »

I have been asked to solo with a very very good middle school band in my area (this band went to Midwest two years ago). Does anyone know of some Tuba solos with easier band accomp? The talent level of this group is very good (they put almost all of the high schools in the area to shame)

Any Suggestions?

Hi. I agree with Bloke "A Touch of Tuba" is a great piece. I have a copy & used it several times which kept the tuba players challenged.

there used to be an old tune called the Egotistical Elephant. I do not know if it is still available. I tend to doubt it, but it was cute.

There is also a Sammy Nestico tune called Persuasion that was actually written for alto sax solo but also has optional solo parts for euph and tuba.

I remember playing a tune called "Suite For Louise" back in highschool. It might be worth looking at.

New Piece

Post by Mike Forbes »

I have recently been commissioned to compose a work specifically for an advanced tuba solo (or euph/bassoon) and Junior High Band...I hope to have the work done by this November. I intend to write a serious work that appeals to mass audiences...but not at the expense of belittling our fine instrument--it's high time for something like this! I'll let folks know when it's available from Carl Fischer.

Stay tuned,
Mike
