If you look at the demographics of ITEA the majority of the members are located in the USA. If you look at the conference that occured in Budapest, Hungary hardly anyone attended. I believe that although the INTERNATIONAL group is very valuable to the continued success of the organization, for conferences to be an extremely successful event (ie. making money, large attendence numbers), a US venue that moves from east coast to west coast as well as somewhere in the middle of the country would increase the average number of attendees at conferences in addition to opening up the event to more people in the states who would otherwise not attend. I support having international conferences but I do not feel as though the ITEC needs to move from the US to abroad every other conference as it has in the past.

Seems a simple question......

It seems like a simple enough question......one I've been asking for months!

I'm involved in a very small way with a group planning a convention, and we already have a commitment by the convention hotel for room rates in __2011__!!

Seems like the 2008 ITEC dates would be confirmed by now, yet I cannot find them anywhere.

I vote for ITEC 2010 to be in...Greenland.

It's not in the United States...
It's not in Europe...
It's pretty much right in between.
(I guess the Japanese and NZ/Australian ITEA members are a little screwed, though.)

Wikipedia says:
The major airport is on the West coast at Kangerlussuaq. International flights connect to Ottawa and to Copenhagen. International flights to Baltimore are expected to begin in May 2007.
Perfect!

Hopefully they've got some good beer.

If ITEA wants to continue to be recognized as an INTERNATIONAL organization the wisest thing to do is mabye not to keep most of the conferences in USA.

The question we should mabye ask is why are the non-american members so few?

Personally, I was a member for several years. A few years ago I quit, though. The main reason was that 95% of the content of every bulletin was about america. I'm not saying that this is bad, but it won't attract more non-american members to ITEA.

Just some thoughts....

I am not so sure that reason that the majority of ITEA members are American is just because of the American slant of the association - more the slant reflects the membership.

It seems to me that there is minimal interest outside America in the tuba in itself by the majority of its players. I am sure most tuba players in the UK, consider themselves "brass band players" (or whatever group they play), rather than "tuba players" - in that their interest is in brass bands rather than tubas. The only exceptions appears to be a few tuba players in orchestras who are the ones which seem to participate on TubeNet.

Why there is the apparent great interest in the tuba (in itself) in the USA and not in say Europe - I wonder?

And I should also add, that I'm would be happy to discuss the other points raised in this thread (and others for that matter) with anyone who would like to, just in a more private manner--just always seem to kill these types of threads whenever I chime in.....
