I'm looking for a mute for a Gnagey C with York Monster Eb bell (19.5"). I believe this would be the same size as a Getzen CB-50 bell.
Around here Denis Wick is the most common mute along with Peter Gane. The guy who makes PG mutes says he'd need to custom make a mute at great expense. I need to try a Wick although I'd prefer wood/fibre - something less 'tinny'.
The main goal of the mute is to reduce the sound output of the tuba so I'm happy practicing at home. I'd like it to blow as free as possible and not totally screw up the pitch & response (I know, that's what everyone wants in a mute...).
Not looking for a practice mute since I just need a bit less volume and also I'd like something for those moments where a mute is called for in ensemble...
Any ideas welcome.
Thanks.

OK, the Balu's look great. They've passed me by until now but nobody seems to have anything negative to say about them.
Regarding sizing, the regular (small) mute will fit my 4/4 C with no problems and it'll fit a tiny Yam 621 or some other tight bass tuba (and work with both)!?
Impressive if that's the case...
