ITEC 2005 Conference(S)!

Post by Mike Forbes »

In 2005 there will not be an International Conference, but rather a number of regional conferences as in 2003. I believe David Zerkel (GA), Jason Byrnes (Northern CO), Deanna Swoboda (UNLV), Jason Hamm (West Point Band), Kevin Wass (Texas Tech), and Denis Winter/Louis Young (Univ. of Central AR) are all hosting regional conferences. There may be others that I am leaving out.

I am proud to announce that I'll be hosting the Midwest Regional Tuba/Euphonium Conference (MWRTEC) at Illinois State University (Bloomington-Normal, IL). I'll post a rather large blurb here and in the ITEA Journal in the next couple of weeks about the events at this conference. But as a teaser, we're looking forward to a performances and/or masterclasses by Gene Pokorny, Sotto Voce Quartet, Navy Brass Quartet, The Jazz Incredibles (Red Lehr, Sousaphone), most BigTen and Midwestern University Professors and their studio ensembles, Illinois Brass Band, and more events still to come!!

Unlike other regionals (I believe), there will be 3 competitions (with prize money!!) open to non-professionals of any age and nationality. The competitions will be: 1) Tuba/Euph. Quartet Competition, 2) Mock Orchestral Tuba Audition Competition, and 3) a Mock Military Band Euphonium Audition Competition.

The event will be Thursday-Saturday, February 17-19 , 2005. Mark your calendars, and stay tuned to this website, the ITEA Journal as well as:http://www.iteaonline.org and http://www.arts.ilstu.edu/music/ for more detailed information as it becomes available!!

Hope to see you there!!
