suggestions for cutting edge music

I am doing a recital in a while, and I want some suggestions of new music.

What I am looking for is something lyrical, without a whole lot of finger nonsense.

Advanced level solos please. Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by finger nonsense.

If by cutting edge you mean fairly recent compositions that are rarely performed, try these:

Holsinger: Kansas City Dances (some of this is extremely difficult)

Raum: Sweet Dances (unaccompanied, difficult)

White: Lyric Suite (avant garde grade 7 or so, if that means anything to you)

Finger nonsense...well, that kind of depends on exactly what you mean there, but nothing that's "cutting edge" and "advanced level" is really going to be a walk in the park, imho.

by finger nonsense, I guess I mean the frilly and unnecessarily difficult stuff composers put in that sometimes doesn't necessarily serve the purpose of the music so much as say "look at me, I can wiggle my fingers really fast."

Thanks for the suggestions guys, and I am up for a challenge if its cool music and worth my time.

After having been around for 50+ years, this may no longer be cutting edge, but it is still controversial and rarely played (er...performed?)on the tuba
