Meinl 33 CC

Post by Dan Schultz »

Anyone have a picture of a Meinl 33 CC tuba? A front and back shot would be helpful. You can email images directly to me at dschultz@sigecom.net

I haven't, either. But, that's what the seller said it is. It's a five-rotor horn with a detachable upright bell. He mentioned that the bell-front version is a Meinl 32. It's a basket case and it would be nice to see what the 4th rotor wrap looks like.

Looks familiar except mine has a detachable bell. Now... turn it around so I can see the 4th wrap! :shock:

Is "it" a basket case, or is "he"?

Semi basket case. The bugle is intact. The valve section is complete except for the 4th valve wrap and some of the linkage. Parts are there... but a picture would be helpful to aid reassembly of that 4th wrap. Perhaps it's like the Meinl 25 and all the slides are on the front at the top. ??

Meinl Weston CC tuba model numbers:

30=four valve fixed bell
31=four valve detatchable bell
32=five valve fixed bell
33=five valve detatchable bell
34=four valve Bell model, fixed bell
35=four valve Bell model, detachable bell
36=five valve Bell model, fixed bell
37=five valve Bell model, detatchable bell

Detatchable bells were designated U (upright) or R (recording). This is from a late 1960's MW catalog that I have laying around somewhere.

Excellent information. Thanks! Based on what I see, the horn I have is 99.9% likely a model 33. Now.... how about that picture of the backside that shows the 4th valve wrap? :wink:

Roger at Tubadome might have one in stock, or from the above chart at least a 32 which should have a similar or same 4th wrap, he'd take a picture of to send to you, especially since he's getting ready for the grand opening and has a lot of tubas in stock:
