I saw the Allora 191 was back in WWBW's most recent catalog. Hallelujah!
(except they have it listed as a Jupiter AA191 ... and it isn't listed on the web site).
Everybody should have a 191 made by somebody. Kim Il Sung plays a 191.

Yes, yes, and yes to the Miraphones. Miraphone is planning a large piston CC, bigger than the 1291, but not a York clone. They are also experimenting with making a new version of the old 190 CC but with the large rotary valves from the 191, for Joe Murphy I think. And, a 191 CC has been on the drawing board for a while. The new piston F is testing right now.

Yamaha are bringing out a 3+1 top action BBb aimed at the top level Brass Band market fairly soon. I'll be reviewing it in the Band Press soon. Not got it yet though!

What about the new line a horns that Walter Nirschl is bring out that are made in India? I have heard from some that they are going to being very good. Especially the BBb tuba.

Is Walter Nirschl going to ressurect Kalison? I understand that they had pretty decent 4/4 York copy (aka PT606 type of horn) that was in prototype.

I didn't know Kalison needed resurrecting. I met Vince S. at the Midwest Conference and played a protoype that Kalison had done of Bob Leblanc's 4/4 York CC. Nice tuba. I also played one each of Nirschl's "production" and "handmade" 4/4 CC tubas. I would have taken the Kalison over either one, but the production model beat the handmade one. Bear in mind, though, all this was done without a tuner and an extra pair of ears.

Hey Marty... can I convince you that yours is chaff and offer to trade you even up for a Rudy 4/4?

If your Rudy is like most others, then it is definitely wheat - you should hang on to it. I am actually thinking about keeping the Weimar and eventually having it fixed up (and maybe even adding a 5th valve) because the Kali is so B_I_G.
I still think the 2155R could beat it in a sheer dB contest, though - the analogy I think of is the 2155R punching with bare knuckles vs. the KaliBat pushing with two palms.

What year was that? I believe Kalison went bankrupt almost 2 years ago. This is the last article I have seen on them. I believe they went bankrupt shortly after this...

Actually, December 2006. Vince talked as though Kalison was still a viable brand, but he may just have been covering the fact that he doesn't yet have a contract with the new company? Do salesmen do stuff like that, even if they are tuba players?
