Korg CA-20 Tuner

I'm not sure if it is old age setting in or what. I've had this tuner for many years, but I am just realizing that I have much difficulty seeing the read out. Then, I was wondering if the screen originally had a light. I changed the batteries, but still no light. Maybe, it was never a lit screen and I just can't see anymore! Does anybody have this tuner, and is the screen supposed to light up? Thanks!

There was an earlier model, exactly the same size as a cassette box, which did light up in red. I still have one, but its internal mic is busted and it is very hard to read in sunlight. I used it for many years for tuning my bass, but now I use the newer black-and white model.
