Questions about the euphonium excerpt book

Post by BopEuph »

There's something I've noticed about the euphonium excerpt book on some music I wasn't previously very familiar with. On some of the pieces, the different excerpts are separated only by a bar rest, even if it's in a different place in the score. Is this common with excerpt books? I'd imagine that each excerpt would start on a different line so as not to look like it belongs to the same section in the piece. I only noticed this when listening to some of the pieces and following along with recordings.

I think all excerpt books are different. Some give you the whole excerpt like the Torchinksy books and some don't even give a break but use a double barline between sections of a piece. Whatever the format, a book of excerpts should substitute for the actual excerpt.

If you are practicing for an audition, try to get the full excerpt in case the committee asks you to play section which may not be in the excerpt book you own.

Good luck!
