Yamaha Euphonium Question

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

When did the model YEP 642 replace the YEP 641?

Anyone know the differences in playing characteristics between the two?

THANKS!

The last year of production for the YEP-641 was 1995. The main difference was the bell - they switched from a single piece 11" bell to one that's nearly 12 inches and apparantly not made of a single piece of brass. Klaus is a huge support of the older single piece 11" bell. (I excpect he'll chime in). I believe they also adjusted the angle of the lead pipe and, acording to Rick Floyd, they spread the valves out a little. I think they play very similarly (after playing several other brands at several conferences, I always have that feeling of familiarity when I finally picked up a 642.) I'd be happy with either of them,

(I guess I forgot to mention that I have a 641 - it was what I could find in my price range when I was looking).
