Anybody have any information they can share about these two tuba excerpts? I'm presuming they are not in any of the standard excerpt collections.

I played "Hymn to the Fallen" this past summer. It is heard during the closing credits for "Saving Private Ryan." Features one really nice long ascending lyrical passage, climaxing with a leap from second line c to b natural above the staff. Really fine playing on the soundtrack - presumably TJ. If you are a tubist and have seen the movie all the way through, you've probably noticed it.

The other might be from the 1984 Olympics, or not. If so, I don't remember anything out of the ordinary.

The tubist is Christopher Hall according to Movie Brass

The Scores for these are available through sheetmusicplus.com, expensive way to get excerpts, but it's the only way I know how to get them...

As I recall, jeopardymaster is right on the money. I don't remember the Olympic thing being any big deal at all, and the Hymn has a wonderfully lyric part where you are a big part of the texture.

was that it may have been Gary Ofenloch that was on that sound track. Chester was unable to make it for the session. Either way, whether Chris or Gary - some great playing going on there. Both are fine musicians and wonderful to listen to.

Thanks for some great information. The TNFJ is definitely a valuable resource.

(I realize I am not using the "TNFJ" terminology in the "bloke-approved" manner, but in this forum, once a term is coined, the "coiner" relinquishes any claim to dictate how others use it.)

As far as "Call of the Champions" goes, it was the primary theme for the Salt Lake City Games (2002, right?) As far as the tuba part, there are some parts where it cuts through a shade, but nothing too demanding. Worrisome if you're a french horn or trumpet player, but hardly anything in our part that can't be figured out by ear. As said above, Sheetmusicplus.com is the only place I know of where the scores are available.
