Another mouthpiece Question..

Post by John Caves »

i have been playing a Conn Helleberg mp for a year. When I began using it, I noticed I was cracking many notes (Eb in the staff and above). Didn't pay much attention to it at first, I thought it would take awhile to get used to it. After a year however, I am in the same situation as before. Articulation, and s l o w slur work hasn't helped much either.

Has anyone else experienced this in a mouthpiece change? Might this not be "my" mouthpice?

What were you playing before? If you didn't have the problem before, it might very well be the piece change.

As much as the Conn Helleberg 120S is acclaimed as a good mouthpiece, just like anything, it isn't for everybody.

Indeed. What were you playing before?

The earlier 'piece was a larger Dillon/Sheridan 01. I didn't have problems with it, except it did suck a lot of air out of me. Someone gave me the Helleberg and it seemed to work very well, except for the note cracking.

Thanks for the comments.
