Best recording I've ever heard of it is The Center City Brass Quintet's, with Craig Knox. Other honorable mentions-St. Louis Brass (Perantoni), Philip Jones Brass(Fletcher) and The Equale Brass(don't know the tuba player's name).

Mr. Knox on the Center City recording is by far the best recording i have heard. Mr. Fletcher on the phillip jones recording is great by all means but everything seems a little too staccato (peckish as my professor would say). center city would be your best bet. check out the rest of their stuff as it is very impressive. hope this helps. btw, what audition are you playing this for? 1st mvt. i assume?

If you're going to take the time to hunt up old Arnold recordings, I agree with the Elephant's suggestion about the Canadian Brass recording. It was done in the vinyl era. Called "A Touch of Brass" then -- could have been renamed. In vinyl form, it was CBC Series, MMG 1123, and also on cassette. Don't know if it ever made the digital divide, though. The recording's pretty sharp, and Chuck D's work is up to his best standards. Worth the time to take a good look.

I agree. The PJBE Quintet is my favorite recording. The trombone recitative in the Chaccone movement is especially phenomenal.
