Need help evaluating Eb Keefer in Knoxville

Post by royjohn »

Hello all,

I am just a recreational tuba player playing for my own amazement about a year now after having come back to trumpet about three years before that. I have a 1970 BBb Besson 3+1, a big monster, and a 1915 Keefer Eb 3V. I'm not sure I like the tone of the Keefer and was thinking of changing to something else, maybe an Eb Besson, but I need an educated opinion and some discussion about this. The change would be to a used horn and not something real expensive, maybe a vintage instrument.

Regular lessons are not in my plans right now, but I am looking for someone in my area [Knoxville, Tennessee] to give me an educated opinion about the Keefer and maybe some pointers about what to do if it's just the way I play it that's wrong or the mpc selection, room, etc. I can travel an hour or two from here to get to someone, but would prefer someone in this radius rather than a suggestion to travel to Atlanta or Baltimore . . . .

Any takers can PM me. Thanks!
