Adjustable cup mouthpieces

Post by Highams »

These used to be popular back in the 30's & 40's (so I'm told) and have not been around for a long time, would they work on low brass?

I've got one (for tuba).

The problem is that the cup of an ACM must be cylindrical to work because it's basically a piston moving inside a cylinder. Unfortunately, a cylinder is not what we have in mind when we think of good mouthpieces. So the result is that an ACM usually has only one setting where it's any good.

BTW, if anyone is desperate to own one of these curiosities, drop me a line. I'll happily sell mine for all the use it gets.
