Pomp & Circumstance March #4

Post by Steve Marcus »

This Elgar composition is on the next program in an orchestra in which I'm playing. There was no tuba nor contrabassoon part for this piece included in my packet along with parts for the other pieces on the program (I often cover the contra cues in this orchestra when the tuba is tacet).

When I questioned the librarian about this, he answered, "There is no tuba part nor contrabassoon part for this piece."

When I showed him the Luck's Music listing,
ELGAR, EDWARD 1857 - 1934
Style: Post Romantic
Reprint: Boosey and Hawkes
Instrumentation: 2+1,2+1,2+1,2+1/4331 TIMP PERC HRP STR
String Count: 4.4.3.2.2
he responded,

"We must be doing a different arrangement."

This orchestra does NOT play simplified, "dumbed down" arrangements.

Could anyone email me the tuba and contrabassoon parts for Pomp & Circumstance March #4?

Thank you very much.

I played this in May for the University of Portland, OR, Graduation. It has a tuba part, complete with low "G's." Persist - the part is there.
Always make a good sound; audiences will forget if you miss a note but making a good sound will get you the next job.

I have also played it!

It is one of the parts included on the Cherry CD

Thanks! I opened up my Cherry Classics CD and, lo and behold, there was the part that the orchestra librarian claimed didn't exist!

I'll use the printout of the tuba part for the upcoming concert and "donate" it to the orchestra.

Now, if someone could email me the supposedly non-existent contrabassoon part... :) On the other hand, the tuba isn't tacet in too many measures of this piece.
