King 2280
I had forgotten how well this horn plays. I just bought one eBay cheap to replace my Marzan. With the exception of top action and a brighter sound than I like, it beats the Marzan in every other category. It took all Summer but now I'm happy. I now have a bell creased but servicable Euph for less than $600.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Mine sounds really good with a 51D but plays flat with it. And mine acquired the bell crease after I bought it on the bay....that was where I learned that a novice can mix up the bottom bow with the tuning slide.
Picking it up by the tuning slide pretty much guarantees the creation of a significant bell crease.

Mine came with the 3rd valve equipment missing. However both the 3rd and 4th slide are accessible with the left hand if need be. I did put the Bach 30E with the cut down shank in for a bit. That's a trip. Right down to Pedal D nonstop! Almost Bass Trombone sounding. Pretty bright, but useable. Who needs a Bass Tuba anyway!

No, the receiver on the 49 is a strange size; it doesn't seem to fit either large or small shank pieces. Fortunately a very medium-type mouthpiece came with it, with the proper shank size, and I use that. It has no markings on it at all so I have no idea what it is. Maybe the owner had one custom-made.Bob1062 wrote:MaryAnn, do you use the same mp on your 49?
Thanks!

Funny you said that....my first use of my 2280 was playing the bass trombone part in a brass band! It was after hearing that I could get those notes out it that the conductor "encouraged" me to buy a bass tuba and play that.tbn.al wrote:Mine came with the 3rd valve equipment missing. I bought a Euro shank mpc for it and that did not fit either. I don't really know what you mean by medium shank.
