Miraphone Cases

Post by Arnie »

Hi friends.

I am in the process of purchasing a Miraphone 1291 BBb tuba.
However, I have not yet decided whether to purchase a Miraphone factory hardcase. At around $1000 it is a large investment. I definately intend to get a case in which the instrument can fly, but there are other options in the same price range, including getting one custom made.
Does anyone have experience with the factory case? Flown with it? Is it bulky/awkward/heavy (as far as tuba cases go anyway)? Will it keep the tuba safe, yet be portable enough to fit on the back seat of a car?

Cheers, Arnie

The Miraphone cases are very well made. The padding is custom to the tuba and fits it like a glove. But, I would be leery about flying with one of these cases. The bum-out in the case that covers the valve section looks like it could be pushed in enough that there could be damage to the valves.

On the other hand, I have two Miraphone cases that have taken some good bangs and have protected the tubas inside. I have not flown with them though.
