I do not have information regarding the shanks of the Monette products nor about the shank on the Miraphone Firebird, but I do have some experience with short shanks. I have a Marcinkiewicz Concert Hall H2 which has a shank very much like the Monette (length-wise). I used this 'piece in a Miraphone 186, Yamaha YBB-641 and a Yamaha YCB-661 and they all took in the shank at about the same place. It "fit" right in the middle of the letters showing the model number which is close to the base of the cup, but it did not ride up all the way and touched the base of the cup. It felt fine, but I taped up the shank for a little while, but that did not do any better. It just made the mouthpiece wobbly and the horn flatter in intonation, so I just took it off and used the mouthpiece as it was. I experience nothing strange in intonation or playing with it.
I would take action if I saw that the mouthpiece ride all the way up and the reciever actually contacted the base of the cup. I would use tape or another object to make a makeshift adaptor. If you do that, though, keep in mind that you should not make the mouthpiece fit in right in the middle of its shank as that one is short than regular shanks. I think just a little bit behind the base of the cup is a good bet, but check with a tuner to see for sure.
I hope that helps!
