This looks great, living in the Chicago area and having gone to IWU (accross town from ISU for those not familiar with Bloomington/Normal) I am looking forward to having the chance to attend this.

One question that I could not figure out by looking through the schedule on your web site. Is there going to be some kind of mass ensemble for the common tuba/euphonium player to participate in? Trying to determine if I should plan on bringing my Tuba or just come down for 3 days of listining to the various great artist you have assembled.

Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to find time to do a mass ensemble thing. I would have liked to, because as many people know, I'm a bit of a tuba/euph. ensemble fanatic. But I thought people might get enough of a dose of that through the 9 or 10 different student tuba/euph. ensembles that will be playing prior to each major concert. I'm sorry, but it looks like you should leave the horn at home this time. Perhaps I'll see you at Tuba Christmas in Chicago!

Great list of performers and clinicians. Too bad the majority of them did not make the international conference in Budapest. The only 2 I remember from that list were Jerry Young and Demondrae Thurmond.

Thank you for pointing that out. This way I can afford to enjoy some of the best tuba music around and still keep my day job. Looking forward to a great time at the other Bloomington - you know, the one that's Normal

I agree that a great deal of the folks involved with the Midwest Conference didn't make it out to Budapest--and though that was unfortunate, I feel that a lot of folks are ready now for a conference like this (esp. close to home). But, if I may, other folks that will be at MWRTEC that WERE also at Budapest include:

Sotto Voce Quartet (The rest of the members besides Demondrae: Nat "the Warrior" McIntosh (Solo Sousaphone recital--shouldn't be missed!), Pat Schulz (composed the final round tuba quartet competition piece, and myself).

Also, John Stevens (who has recently elected to come to MWRTEC) was in Budapest along with Carol Jantsch (who has won everything under the sun--including the tuba competition in Budapest). I'm so pleased that Carol has agreed to play a full-length recital at MWRTEC! In a short number of years, I don't think I would have ever gotten her to play at something like this for the $$ that I'm paying her (e.g. zip). Thanks Carol!
