I have an idea for a valve type that I don't think any one has done. Is there a way to check if it has been done. I don't feel like hiring a patent attorney if I don't have to. I am not even sure if my idea is practical yet. I still have some experimentations left.
Thanks for any help you can give.

You will be amazed at the shear numbers of patents that exist for this sort of thing. You can do your own search and you can also file for your own patent. If you really think you have an original idea you should start with a 'poor man's patent'... send your idea to yourself certified mail and keep the envelope sealed.... then visit this site for more information:
