Six Valve BBb Tubas

In looking at the Cerveny site, I noticed that they have some six valve BBb tubas.

The rationale for six valve BBb tubas escapes me. Can someone clarify why Cerveny does this?

6 valve BBb tubas hardly ever were common, but GDR-era B&S also made them. the photo shows the 5 valve, but the lower right text column mntions the option for a six valve (sechs Ventile(-n)).

The rational for the 6 valve BBb would be the same as for the 6 valve F: more agility and better intonation in the range just above the open pedal. Only that this range is less often needed on BBb tubas than on F tubas.

Wow, a turbo charger. Here in Berkeley, where one of every twenty-five cars is a Prius, I think I'll wait until Cerveny produces a plug-in hybrid tuba.

Damn. My "tuned exhaust" is starting to look as obsolete as rear-wheeled drive!

Why? Because they can? They don't have a picture of it. The type of construction that they use with the rotary valves seems to allow easy addition of valves. I notice their CC, Eb and F horns are not available in the 6v configuration.

6v horns must be like amplifiers that go to 11. "It's one number better."

When the U.S. Coast Guard Tuba-Euphonium Quartet performed at Midwest a few years ago, an audience member asked Gary Buttery why his tuba had seven valves.

I've never seen the Cerveny, but I have an old 70's B&S 6-valve BBb. It has 5th valve = long whole step and 6th valve = long half step.

It has been handy on occasion for nailing the bottom notes. I've never had a horn that could punch-out a low D like this horn, but really, I don't play low-D or any of those notes all that often. Once in a while it has been handy for fast passages in the staff, but that's been rare. Someone on this site, Dan, has commented that the horn provides a nice set of replacement valves should I need to make a repair to any of the other 4. But it is a right pretty B&S that plays wonderfully. B&S says they made 20 some of them and advised that it would be VERY expensive for them to replace as new. If I was buying a new horn, I'd get the 4-valve.
