If anybody can point me in the right direction, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks!
I'm not sure how you'll get the inside diameter of that rim to fit the inside diameter of the cup. The 1G cup is something like 29mm diameter, and the PT-44 is something like 33mm.

You might talk with Doug Elliott, and look into the G cup for the tuba mouthpiece series. It's designed for euph doubling with a tuba rim.

Terry Warburton will also make custom mouthpieces, if what you want is physically possible.

Custom mpc?

Post by Tubatoad »

Can any of the guys noted here make a mpc from specs alone? I'd like a really large Helleburg - I have thick dense lips (no I'm not a duck!) and getting enough meat into the mouthpiece to vibrate slowly for the low notes has always been a problem. I played a Schilke 58 on my Conn 88H trombone in High School and for 25 years thereafter, switching to a bored out 60 for the low stuff. I'm using a Wick 1L on my Cerveny BBb 683, but even that isn't big enough for anything below the false tone Eb. Help! :(

Hi Pete,

You may be able to get an off-the-shelf solution here. A Bach 7 has a larger I.D. (ca. 1.31") than a Conn Helleberg 120 -- if you like the Bach rim, that might work for you. If you prefer the Helleberg-style rim, I think the Marcinkiewicz H-series mouthpieces have that, and the I.D. on those is even larger than the Bach 7 (1.325"). I seem to remember seeing a Warburton mpc with a 1.34" I.D. also -- might want to check their website.

Hope this helps!
