Mirafone 185 at Dillon Music

Post by deputysgttuba »

Has anyone had a chance to try it out yet? I am considering either having it sent to me on trial or possibly traveling to Dillon to play it there on MLK holiday weekend. What general type of mouthpieces work best on this type of horn? Better yet, if a former owner would give his .02. I was lucky enough to speak briefly to Matt at Dillon's before he left for vacation and he said it was an awesome horn. Thanks!

I am a current owner of a 185 and I use the Yamaha Jim Self mouthpiece. Personally, I prefer the deeper cup and this one has it. I have tried the Yamaha Bobo Symphonic, which has about the same rim, but is shallower. For me the Self is better.

They are great horns, but require some extra effort in larger groups.
