Portrait Of An Artist Horn

Post by Gongadin »

My tubas are vintage horns, so please forgive my ignorance, but what is the brand / model of horn that is pictured on the cover of "Portrait Of An Artist"?
I know it's not the fabled York. The York's vintage...I would recognize that! ;)

I played that horn a hundred times, it is a Rudy Meinl but I thought it was a 3/4. Mr Jacobs gave the horn to his tuba playing neighbor.

hm... I'm sure you're right. the angle on the pic makes it look a little bigger than the 3/4, but it's probably just the angle. looking at it again, the bell does seem narrow for the 4/4. lucky neighbor! those RMs are great.

Rudi Meinl 3/4

Yeah Brian it was the 3/4. The only time I heard him use it in the hall was to play "Tubby the Tuba" at a children's concert. I was disappointed that he wasn't doing the narration as he had done at times in the past. I'm not sure exactly how one gets around that....somehow it seems you would have to be able to talk and play at the same time. I had a chance to do the narration once, and it was more fun than playing the tuba part!
