I have one of these in acceptable condition and it plays like a beginner's horn. Keep it midrange in the staf and it's fine. It uses a small shank mouthpiece and I use (and many have suggested) a Denis Wick 3L. That's kind of a bass trombone MP. but it seems to work well. Go lower than C and the sound poops out and above the staff it runs out of juice. If you can get it to work with a minimum of expense, go ahead. If you don't like it, maybe a kid could start out on it. If it's going to take multiple hundres of dollars (I'd say $200) to get it to play, I'd turn it into a wall hanging.
