Music Theory Book

I am currently a college student studying music education at a small school in the hills of West Virginia. Our music theory program is a little lacking and I was wondering if there were any good books out there that I could get and would be able to teach myself the more advanced theory. I would like to get into theory of the 20th century like minimalism and sorts.

I don't think it goes into actual styles, but the "Complete Idiot's Guide" to Music Theory is a good one.

I'm a student at Central Michigan University, and we use Kostka/Payne's "Tonal Harmony." They're quite good, and they also sell a workbook with a number of examples. I'd look into it, especially since they just released a new edition (meaning the older ones would be dirt cheap, but still informative). I've learned quite a bit from them. I don't know how much they go into modern concepts, but the fundamental stuff is top-notch!
