Free / public domain brass quintet arrangements?

Post by MartyNeilan »

Are there any sites that offer free and / or public domain brass quintet arrangements?
I know the "public domain" thing is kinda pushing it, considering the relative newness of the brass quintet (yet we keep playing those Renaissance pieces. Hmmm.)

Try this site.

The page has a google search function that you can enter an ensemble into. The google search for brass quintet yields about four pages of results. Scroll down the page a little and you will find links for "sheet music downloads". Every imaginable ensemble (mostly) is represented in the composers listing.

At the bottom is a link for other PD/free music sites.

None of these pieces are "true" works for BQ, but arrangements of PD works. Many of them may work for BQ even though arranged for other ensembles. Good luck.

Download the Scorch plug-in, then click on the brass quartet/quintet link. When that comes up, sort by price. Free arrangements will be listed first. You can also alter the key before you print if your quintet doesn't like d# minor. I pulled down a free arrangement of the entire Pictures at an Exhibition for brass 5-tet. The parts =

I am convinced that 90% of the problems with rhythm, tone, intonation, articulation, technique, and overall prowess on the horn are related to air issues.

has a good part of my arrangements.

More arrangements are here, but that address takes approved membership of the Yahoo group system:

There is some quintet stuff, even an American tuba solo from 1875.

Some of the quartet stuff is relevant, not only musically, but also for easening the workload on the trumpets.
