Cost of a Bell for a 20J

Post by b.williams »

I am interested in the cost of the following:

1. 20J brass recording bell
2. 20J silver recording bell
3. 20J brass upright bell
4. 20J brass upright bell

Do any of you out there have any of the above for sale?
(This is a fact-finding exercise)

Thank you.

Dan Oberloh has an upright bell for the 2xJ series for sale.

Look in the Tubas section of the sales inventory.

Kanstul makes them and Lee Stofer is the distributer, he's a sponsor here on the Tubenet. I think the raincatchers are around 1200.00 in raw brass and they are, in my opinion better than the originals because they are 19 or 20 inches in diameter rather than 24 like the original ones. And this isn't speculation, I've played several. Gotta love those big Conns. Regards, Ed

There is no such thing as an original upright bell for a 20J. The uproght version had the name of 21J.

The upright bell is a pretty rare item for the 2xJ series.

Over the last year or so, I've seen used upright bells go from about $700 to $1500.

If you really want an upright bell, you might just as well off buying a 21J or 25J that already has an upright bell (I probably got those numbers wrong.) Then, keep the best upright combination, and sell the remaining instrument with the forward bell.
