Rockland County (NY) TubaChristmas

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

Hey folks!

For any of you in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area:

We will be having this year's Rockland County TubaChristmas at Helen Hayes Hospital, on December 19th!
The Helen Hayes Hospital is a great place for a performance, as they have a regular concert series, that is open to the public, and is very well attended!

Our special guest conductor, back by popular demand: Don Butterfield!!!

Here is the info:

Sunday, December 19 - 2:00 pm
Location: Helen Hayes Hospital, West Haverstraw, NY
Registration: 11:00 am
Rehearsal: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Note: Performance will be in the main lobby, rehearsal in separate location within the building.
Hospital info & directions at: http://www.helenhayeshospital.org/
Conductor/Coordinator: Larry Zaidan (845) 429-1096

(If after playing the TubaChristmas in NYC, you still feel like playing, c'mon up to Rockland County on Sunday, December 19th!)

Better still: Skip the NYC zoo and just do the Rockland TubaChristmas.
I've done the NYC TC many times...its an EVENT not a musical performance. A few years ago my wife (on euph) agreed to come with me. Few people at the rehearsal paid any attention to what was going on (many "participants" skipped the rehearsal altogether) and the performance was just LOUD with little attempt at making music. In the pre-Christmas rush it took an hour to get out of the city (by car). She wanted to know WHY we did this!
Rockland was a whole 'nother story. Despite misgivings based on the NYC experience we and our #3 offspring (also on ruph) made the rather more pleasant trip to Bear Mountain the following year. Like night and day! The rehearsal was well-directed. We sat in "sections" and everyone tried to make MUSIC! From that point on we didn't even consider going back to NYC . We missed last year due to a sched. conflict but hope to be back in Rockland this year and for many years to come.
