You are probably refering to the pix of Floyd on his web site with the Floyd-o-phone, the Nirschl. There is great engraving on that horn. Seems those ornate engravings of the past are a long lost art.

Actually, it looks like she does some damfino work!
There are photographic examples of the horns on her website of the horns she's engraved.

Hmm...that begs a question....would non-original (albeit high quality) add to or detract from an instrument's resale value?

The engraving may not be a totally lost art, but it seems to be lost to the manufacturers of most tubas. It would be nice to have this type of engraving come with the horn rather than endure the expense of aftermarket work (although I have been considering it).bloke wrote:maybe not completely...Seems those ornate engravings of the past are a long lost art.![]()
