Christmas Music for Brass Ensembles

Post by Jeremy K. »

I know its a bit early to be thinking about Christmas in the wonderful celebratory month of Octubafest.

That disclaimer being stated, I need some help!

I am trying to get a mixed brass group together at my high school to play some Christmas tunes, so what are some resources you guys know of?

I already have in my personal library the Sammy Nestico red and green Christmas books and the Canadian Brass books, so what else is out there for fairly cheap?

I have also purchased for my own use some arrangements from Select-A-Press, but does anybody know if any of those are appropriate for high school level groups?

Thanks for any help you can give!

You might have a look at the Sibelius website. There are some things available there at little or no cost.

Theodore Presser publishes "Play a Song of Christmas", 35 carols, easy, reasonably priced, and 4 parts can be played by any combination of instruments.

Below here a sample from my Yahoo based free download project. Approved membership is required, but just identify yourself with name, instrument. and ensemble. The playing score shown is for 2 C trumpets, trombone, and contrabass tuba (or for 2 oboes and 2 bassoons). You will find playing scores for any instrument in C (treble, alto, and bass clefs), F, Bb, or Eb plus an introduction on using these modular scores in mixed ensembles here:

The index for the full project is here:

The Moravian "Green Book" has a lot of Christmas songs.

Most of them are public domain.
