Playing it in a rehearsal would involve a team of bearers. It will stay in my basement until I work out the intonation quirks AND I figure out a way to transport it.

Having acquired the (apparently) rare upright bell, I'm now actually in the market for a forward-facing bell. Unless I'm imagining things, it looks to me as if the "bell case" will accomodate either. I guess it's "one on the horn, and one in the case".

But, for now, the Eb helicon, the EEb Besson (just back from being bloke-ified), and the Grand Orchestral Conn are for private consumption only - when I have an obligation to other people in the ensemble, it's the King (which stays in the gig bag at home - always ready to throw in the back of the car). The Yamaha 621 has found a niche as my "airplane flight" tuba. Did I tell you about the time I flew the King and had the rental SUV towed (with the King in it)?

 Time to order a custom dent bag. I believe they make one for a hippopotamus.

This sounds like the setup for a lame tuba joke. In response to your question...no, I never heard the story. Do tell.

Have you seen this site. It looks a hell of a lot like your horn except with a recording bell.
