Uh... What do I do now?

Post by Toobist »

Some of you may have read my post regarding the tuba part for Star Wars. Anyway, I've received a part for the medley from Pub. 20th Cen. Fox (THANKS!) and I believe that's the score I've ordered. After a long, long search for the music to borrow/rent (who knew it would be so difficult!) I've found a score.

Awkward story actually...

The orchestra librarian from whom I'm renting the music said she was going into surgery today and should be able to get parts out to me next week. Now... I didn't want to pry as I don't know the lady, but what does she mean? What sorta surgery is she going in for? If I didn't have 55 musicians relying on me I wouldn't feel so much pressure, but is she going to pull through?!?!? Should I ask the next of kin to package up the music and send it to me? Yikes!

Everybody cross your fingers for me! Oh... and for her of course!

That's not exactly an easy piece, either. Your orchestra members are going to want to look at it.

The obvious question is whether you have any other contact name/number/email at the rental company. If you do - I'd make another contact just to CYA as soon as possible.

I'd keep it as polite as possible - something like "I'm sure employee X will handle this fine, but since she mentioned to me that she is going out for surgery, and my orchestra members REALLY need their parts, is there anything else that can be done to ensure we get them."

Whomever else gets that message would rather deal with getting the parts out to you than trying to play "clean up the mess" if you don't get them when you need them.
