Correct Shank size

Post by bsptuba »

Could any of the PT 15 owners out there please tell me the correct mouthpiece shank size for that tuba. I put my PT 65S in today and the shank seems a little small

People have widely differing opinions of what fitting "as it should" means. Even if it fits well (whatever that means) a different shank size (on the exact same mouthpiece) may significantly change the way the horn plays, in intonation, resistance, and slotting.

It's been a while since I measured some, but most of the PT tubas I have seen I would consider to be between American and European shank sizes. You should try both to see what plays best.
