Orange Patina ???

Post by TubaTodd »

As I have mentioned before I have a raw brass 2165 that I bought used back in August 2009. In late August, I gave the horn a vinegar bath followed by soap, followed by a thorough rinse. Other than that, the horn receives regular-periodic lubrication of the slides and valves. (Typical stuff) For as long as I have had the horn, I keep it in my office, out of its case, either laying on the floor or resting on the bell but propped against my wife's desk.

So here's my question. I'm trying to figure out of I am imagining things. I could swear the raw brass patina is significantly more orange in color than it was when I first bought it. Is this typical for a raw brass horn perpetually exposed to the air (ie. not stored in a case)??? Am I just a REALLY bad observer?

Thanks
