Does anyone like the Neotech Harness?

Post by mdc2d »

I am really stuggling to make a decision and obviously want to spend the least amount of money. I play a MW 2141 in BQ and we are going to do a few tunes standing on our next recital and I need some sort of strap/harness. I know the MW is supposed to be good but I don't really want to spend $100. That leaves the Neotech harness and Blue Note strap. The Blue Note strap is just a strap and makes me nervous, plus I don't think I could pull any slides with that. The Neotech LOOKS fine, but have read some questionable stuff.

Does anyone use the Neotech harness and actually like it? Can anyone speak for the Blue Note Strap?

Thanks!

I bought the neotech a couple of years ago and could never get it to work. Now whether that was me not being smart enough or the neotech being a poor product I don't really know, but I used before and am now back to using a nice padded luggage strap.

I cannot find any way to make my Neotech. I bought it cheap enough that I am keeping it so I can try modifying it, but as it is now it is terrible.

Interesting...what horns were you guys using it with? Its unfortunate that the design wasn't handled better, because it looks like it should work, and is at a good price.

My medium front action King Eb (about the size of a 621F) and my front action Conn Giant Eb (somewhere between a 56J and a 1291 size-wise).

What will happen is that you will buy the NeoTech for$50. because it's cheap; then, when you find out the hard way--as I did and the posters above--you will buy the MW harness, which is wonderful, for another $100. or a little more. Now you have way too much invested, but at least you finally have a piece of equipment that really does what is is supposed to do. And, you already play a MW, so the bottom rectangular fitting is already in place for it to attach.
Buy the MW! 8)

I've decided to go with the MW. Just wanted to make sure, but do I for sure need the additional strap ($37) for the MW Harness since neither of my tubas have rings? Could I attach it to a secure brace instead of rings?

Thanks!

I bought one, and find it impossible to use.

I'm thinking of hanging a stuffed monkey from mine, and tying to the ceiling of our baby room.

I used the Neotech for a whole summer with my 186 without any issues. Everybody has a different tuba and body type, but I am always baffled by those who report that the Neotech is unworkable.

I use the additional strap on my Besson 982 with the MW harness but I find that the piece that attaches the harness to the additional strap scratches and dents my tuba. The may have worked around this with a newer model that has protection on it but I find a piece of foam works well in between. :D

Obviously, that is because I don't like 18(sex). :D
Maybe it'd work with a MW25... :P

I use the Neotech Soft Strap for Saxophone and clip it to one of the lower braces on my Yamaha 822 F tuba. Use it all the time in quintet and it works great for me.

I would think that $37. would get you a nice, secure ring attached by a decent tuba tech. That way, it would always be there and there would be no scratching or attaching and would be very secure. It is a rectangular "ring" we are talking about, similar to those on the M-W and Mirafones, located on the bottom/back of the horn. You should also get a ring attached up near the bell if you don't already have one, for the 2 straps to keep it from falling away from your mouth, again, similar to the M-W and Mira. A good investment!
