I need repairs...
I need a trusted repairman in the Jacksonville, FL area. I'm willing to travel if I know I can trust someone. Thoughts?

What do you need repaired?
The more serious the repair, the more serious consideration should be given to travel or shipping the horn for repair.

Minor dents, and there are a couple of rough spots I want to get polished.

Oh, I can see this one coming....Homerun wrote:Minor dents, and there are a couple of rough spots I want to get polished.
A local general instrument tech might get a hold of this instrument and make it look worse. If I was taking a horn into someone who was an unknown quantity, I would want photographic or physical examples of the tech's work. Stofer/Bloke/Walters/Oberloh/Tuba Tinker and others work is a known quality. Would be awful to have your horn munged up by someone who is not skilled. Better to leave it like it is...

I'm looking to sell it, but I think I can get more for it if I take a few repairs on it now rather than sell it like it is.
I completely agree that local shops may destroy it, hence the thread post in the first place.

I would recommend Richard Roberts at Rhapsody Music on Beach Blvd. He has done some really great work on my PT6 and has also worked on James Jenkins' York. If he can't help you, contact Tom Treece in Orlando.

Honestly, if the dents aren't the kind that make you gasp when you see them, I wouldn't worry about it if you are going to sell it anyhow. Having the work done isn't necessarily going to add any value for you. If you are going to sell it anyhow, give it a spit shine and see how it goes. This is just my opinion, but I don't think I am wrong.Homerun wrote:I'm looking to sell it, but I think I can get more for it if I take a few repairs on it now rather than sell it like it is.

What do you want for it? Do you have any pictures?
